Daily Meds Feb 13, 2021

Daily Meditations, or Daily Meds, are a collection of quick-hitting thoughts meant to help you focus your own personal meditative practice each morning. Read the Daily Med, but don’t dwell on it too long. Take the feeling into a fifteen minute meditation and see how your outlook slowly improves each day.

Fake it ’til you make it”

The best way to cure a general unease towards the world is to stop trying to think of a solution, to stop identifying as someone who is anxious, and to stop trying to find a new buzzword or phrase that you can cling to for relief. Fake it until you make it actually makes a lot of sense, as long as you follow both parts of the advice. “Faking it” is very common; most people drift through life in two parts: a real self that nobody ever fully gets to interact with (their partner sees the most but never all), and a fake self that we create and tinker with during adolescence that only highlights our best qualities or those that will keep us safe. In other words, we become master “fakers,” living separate lives depending on the situation, and unless the situation is incredibly optimal (which is very rare), we see the situations as something that must be endured instead of embraced. Not only are you faking, but now you are faking and coping. We have to also “make it,” which means allow ourselves the opportunity to embrace life, be our true self, and help others that are clearly in need. Once you identify as exactly what you want to be, you are no longer faking, but rather making the exact life you want.
